The Effect of Project-Based Learning Involving Percussion Instruments on the Self-Confidence of Fourth-Grade Elementary School Students

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of percussion instrument instruction based on Project-Based Learning (PBL) on the self-confidence of fourth-grade elementary school students. The results indicate that the experimental group experienced an increase in their mean self-confidence score, from 51.16 in the pre-test to 53.28 in the post-test. The Wilcoxon test yielded a significance value of 0.016 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference before and after the intervention. In the control group, the mean score increased from 52.64 to 54.92; however, this increase was not statistically significant, with a significance value of 0.068 (p > 0.05). The Mann-Whitney test resulted in a significance value of 0.423 (p > 0.05), showing no significant difference between the final outcomes of the two groups. Thus, while percussion instrument instruction based on Project-Based Learning led to positive changes in the self-confidence of students in the experimental group, this method has not been proven to be statistically superior to the approach used with the control group.
